In reply to the discussion: Feinstein Suffered More Complications From Illness Than Were Publicly Disclosed [View all]pat_k
(13,834 posts)According to the NY Times piece, she is isolated -- refusing to see visitors, including members of her own family, when she was in SF. Since the death of her husband, it's unclear to me that the people around who believe they are looking out for her interests are actually doing so. There is also mention in other articles of trusted staffers having departed. Haven't discovered the people they are referring to, but it seems that she is currently being "handled" by a group of folks that does not include some important resources.
I have no idea if the people around her believe they are serving her best interests or have some other agenda, but as a member of the public witnessing the damage to her legacy being done by public displays of impairment, and a circle of people isolating her from interactions with press or colleagues, I fear her true interests are not being served. There are giant red flags that she is struggling with serious cognitive impairment. If she is not competent to make the decision, how can Sen. Feinstein's refusal to resign go unchallenged by caretakers and staffers? I don't believe there is any grand "conspiracy" going on, but having Pelosi's daughter as a key caretaker seems problematic in the "appearances" aspect of things.
It is a sad, alarming, situation.
