Since 1980, non-incumbent years produced the following winners of the Iowa Republican caucus
1980: George Bush
1988: Bob Dole
1996: Bob Dole
2000: George Bush
2008: Mike Huckabee
2012: Rick Santorum -- Though Santorum got 0 delegates. Paul got 22 and Romney got 6 at the convention (So, they picked the loser twice that year)
2016: Ted Cruz
