There are, unfortunately, many examples of human trafficking in the form of forced labor in the US.

The Great Escape: A True Story of Forced Labor and Immigrant Dreams in America Hardcover – January 24, 2023

The above book tells the story of over 200 Indian skilled welders who were tricked into paying $20K each to come to the US to repair oil rigs after Katrina. The oil companies did not want to pay US/union workers. They promised the Indian men would be housed in apartments and that there was a path to earn a green card. The US companies promised that if the men stayed in the US for a certain period of time, they would be able to bring their families here. The men were placed basically in barracks and not allowed to leave. When men would escape, the company owners would actually contact ICE to round them up and bring them back!
