After Ukraine showed how weak the rump-USSR really is, I think putin is not going to spend a lot of resources building vulnerable pipelines.

Of course, if the US (R)epuglicons sabotage any effort to help Ukraine and let it fall into russia's hands, then we can expect putin to expand his outright control of neighboring states quickly.
