Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco in the 1960s, the two holidays were always referred to by locals as "Aïd es-Sgrir" (the Little Feast) and "Aïd el-Kebir" (the Big Feast).

Both were special holidays. Often, special cookies were baked as well , with gifts also given to the children on Aïd es-Sgrir, somewhat akin to Christmas.
