First, the reason the prosecution (which Obama's Admin refrained from for its harmful 1st Amendment implications) was even started was because of the Trump Administration's political desire to have Julian reveal his sources for the 2016 leaks to show they WEREN'T Russia. Journalist ethics (which do NOT militate against securing or revealing leaks) forbade such a revelation of sources
Second, even those who don't like him (blaming him for allegedly helping Trump in 2016 even as he was already holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy (a huge IMF loan to Ecuador was approved right when they evicted him) shd at least recognize the GENERAL threat to press freedom this case was, which is why ENTIRE mainstream media condemned to overall prosecution, even those who were critical of Julian
