(363 posts)I took pictures of him on the front porch this morning, as he headed out to catch the bus. This afternoon is his first home high school soccer game. He made JV, and he is so excited. All the kids, so excited about a new school year. It is so tragic that we go through this so many times every year - rinse and repeat. My older grandson had a shooter in his high school up in Washington State a couple years ago before he moved here to Oregon. He called me from the school and told me how terrified he was as he was sitting in the cafeteria and felt so vulnerable. He ran and ran until he could hide in a portable classroom. My husband, now retired, was a city manager for a nearby city here in Oregon. They had a shooter in that community's high school in 2014 and one student, a 9th grade soccer player, was killed. It was horrific. I met his mother at a service honoring the first responders. There were no words that could console her. I am so sick of guns.
