5. Such Things Seriously Undermine the Pursuit and Condemnation of Real Hate Crimes

I'm sorry this woman felt the need to do this.

As a gay man who grew up in the South I know it's not easy being gay in very religious, very right-wing places. I suspect Ms. Rogers has had a difficult time growing up and living in a largely conservative state like NE.

I won't vilify or deify her for her plight. I'll just comment that it is one shared by many people. Not all of them turn to false police reports. Unfortunately many of them turn to suicide.

I will paraphrase and alter MLK and say that one day we will not judge people on their sexual orientation but on the content of their character.

Sadly we still have not fully arrived at his dream we would not judge people on the color of their skin but the content of their character.
