Here was NBC News, with the conservative Tom Brokaw, owned and operated by part of the vast military industrial complex (GE), working inside the military command structure. What could be better for sucking up and selling more GE weapons systems in-house.

If you recall Meet the ~~Republicans~~Press with Russert, Gregory and Todd, that show had 60% to 70% republicans for the entire Bush farce of a presidency.
