'You're Out of Order!' House Hearing Descends Into Chaos After GOP Blocks Dems From Subpoenaing Elon Musk [View all]

A House Oversight Committee hearing descended into chaos on Wednesday morning after Democratic lawmakers were blocked from subpoenaing billionaire Elon Musk.
Recently, Democrats have raised concerns after Musk along with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) have begun purging federal budgets and employees in the executive branch.
On Wednesday, Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) made a motion to subpoena Musk before the committee attempting to “dismantle federal agencies, fire people, transfer them, offer them early retirement, and have sweeping changes to agencies without any congressional review.”
Oversight Chair James Comer (R-KY) immediately moved to dismiss the motion leading to outcry from Democratic lawmakers on the committee, including Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM).
STANSBURY: Mr. Chairman. I think it’s outrageous that this committee will not even entertain a motion to subpoena-
COMER: State your point of order! That’s not a point of order!
STANSBURY: -Somebody who is breaking the law and dismantling our federal agencies and firing federal employees…
COMER: Out of order!
STANSBURY: And you will not even entertain a motion to bring him in front of the Oversight Committee?!

Here is the issue when you don't have the majority in order to be Committee Chairs. I have posted that the "glue" of our system relies on "the honor system", and that has been dissolved.
