(42 posts)and on top of being a teacher, I have to be:
a referee
a coach
a substitute parent
a cook
a janitor
a nurse
a computer technician
a child psychologist
a shoulder to cry on
a job reference
and now someone wants me or my principal to have a gun? Let me tell you something...
I teach in a classroom that has students from grade 6 to grade 8 in it. I used to be a security guard...I weigh about 195, so I'm a pretty big guy. I have a student who is taller and heavier than I am, and when he gets in a bad mood you get out of his way. Now, if I had a gun in my classroom, guess which person in my class is going to be more likely to get to it before I do?
Guns in the classroom are like guns in the home. A gun in the home is more likely to kill the owner or someone related to the owner. I can deal with coaching volleyball...I can't deal with one of my students getting killed because I have a gun in my class.
