He and the Democratic Party won the election.
Republicans lost.
They need to live with it. They may control the House, but they lost the election. The tide is turning against them.
Many, many Republicans don't want cuts to Social Security either.
And Lindsay Graham seems to have forgotten that South Carolina is home to a lot of retired veterans. They are not going to like his insistence on cuts to the CPI increases.
Boehner needs to remember this:

Democrats would be in charge in the house if the Republicans had not gerrymandered their way to power.
