I can only guess, but I suspect this was talked over, within the family, and it looks like there were no objections.

Charles has to think of the wellbeing of his whole family and the throne that’s been entrusted to him (and them), well into the future.

He’s always shown himself to be a serious thinker and evaluator. Charles has things, events, and dynamics to consider that few others in the world have in their shoulders. And as someone who’s watched the royal family for years, it strikes me that he understands the weight of responsibility that he has to live with. And it’s probably ground into him from childhood. His sibs got to relax a little, to varying degrees, but nobody has played more fast ‘n’ loose than his brother Andrew has.
