What always bothered me, and I mentioned it to my letters to Clinton, asking for release, was that Pollard, Ames (a CIA counter intelligence officer) and Hansen (An FBI agent) all sentenced to life for spying. But while Aldrich and Ames spied for the Soviet Union, providing names of US agents some were executed, Pollard spied for an ally. More or less.

Eitan said he believed Ames tried to blame Pollard to clear himself of suspicion.
