Sen. Chris Murphy on Sunday accused President Donald Trump of a deliberate campaign to make violence more common across the country, just hours after a gunman was taken into custody in connection to a shooting at Brown University.
Speaking to host Dana Bash on CNNs State of the Union, the Connecticut Democrat highlighted Trump shuttering the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention and the administrations cuts to bipartisan gun violence prevention grants.
He has been engaged in a pretty deliberate campaign to try to make violence more likely in this country, and I think youre unfortunately going to see the results of that on the streets of America, Murphy said.
In a statement on Sunday, the White House accused Murphy of spreading lies. Before spreading these lies, Chris Murphy should take a look in the mirror, spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told POLITICO. Chris and his colleagues have regularly used rhetoric meant to incite their followers to violence, including smearing ICE officers as Nazis and calling their political opponents fascists.

smearing ICE officers as Nazis and calling their political opponents fascists.
It's not a "smear". It's a historical fact. History that they are trying their darnedest to erase.
