...even if he was not as important at the time of the pics as he would later be. So it's possible he could have tried to use his influence to address the claims -- if he really cared.

The statement "cut him off before his crimes came to light" doesn't tell us why Mr Clinton chose to "cut off" Mr Epstein. It sounds to me like an attempt to distance while subconsciously admitting a closer connection. What does "come to light" mean in this context? Come to Mr Clinton's attention, or become a public scandal?
