House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, a New York Democrat, voiced support for a congressional investigation into the health of President Donald Trump. Newsweek reached out to the White House for comment via email.
Why It Matters
Trump, who is 79, was the oldest person to become president when he returned to office last January, and while he maintains that he's in perfect health, questions have emerged about his age. A new report from The Wall Street Journal highlighted several of his alleged signs of age, including delicate skin and difficulty hearing.
What To Know
Jeffries, a staunch Trump critic who could become the next House speaker if Democrats retake control of Congress in the November midterm elections, was asked about whether there should be investigations into Trumps health during an interview with Aaron Parnas. Parnas posted a clip of the interview to X on Friday.
Jeffries said the White House is definitively not being transparent about Trumps health and that Representative James Comer, the Kentucky Republican who leads the House Oversight Committee, needs to answer for questions about an investigation. I dont believe that this is something that should wait until the American people give Democrats the majority in the aftermath of the November election later on this year, he said.
