throughout the red states. A drastically cut federal science budget means many of the few good paying jobs in the area are suddenly gone. That is a lot of pressure on any R who wants to get re-elected. Weighing their political future against blind loyalty to the most unpopular president in US history seems to be moving some of them to self-preservation.
