The Trump administration's renewed interest in purchasing or gaining control over Greenland has met with strong resistance from both the Danish and Greenlandic governments. Greenland's Prime Minister stated that the island's security and future "firmly" belong within NATO and the framework of Denmark, rejecting any hints of a U.S. takeover or annexation.

On the U.S. side, House Speaker Mike Johnson announced that, unlike his support for the operations in Venezuela, he opposes any "military intervention" option for Greenland. However, diplomatic tensions remain high as some figures within the administration, particularly JD Vance, continue to emphasize the island's strategic importance ahead of critical meetings with Greenlandic and Danish officials.

Donald Trump expressed his disagreement with the Greenlandic leader's preference for Denmark, maintaining his insistence on the island's strategic and economic potential. Meanwhile, the Danish government reaffirmed its total unity with Greenland ahead of talks with Washington, emphasizing once again that the island is "not for sale."
