All US-born, and all speaking Polish as a first language because they were the younger children of immigrants and had older siblings who were born in Europe. Different city, same situation: you could go to church, shop, find a doctor, read a newspaper, listen to the radio all without leaving your ethnic enclave. My grandparents all spoke heavily-accented English their entire lives, and maybe had a grammar school education at best, but they kept up on what was happening in the country (my grandfather once told me never vote for a Republican, advice I still follow) and their kids became productive and educated contributors to the US.

It's the same thing immigrants are doing today.
