(52,927 posts)Strangely enough, Fort Drum is colder than any US Army Alaska (USARAK) base and gets four times the snow, thanks to the Great Lakes.
True story: when I was stationed there we got a new commanding general whose previous assignment was USARAK. Theres a point on the thermometer where the division regulations require morning Physical Training be done indoors - you can use the unit barracks common areas, the motor pool bays or the post gym if you can get in. This idiot general proclaimed that its never too cold to train outside. After 15 percent of the division came down with third degree frostbite phone calls were made and the last was between General Disaster and the Surgeon General of the Army telling him to put the reg back where it was.
Trust me on this: King Donald and Otis Campbell arent using this unit because they come from a cold weather environment. They picked 11th Airborne because paratrooper sounds to them like the scariest people on earth.
