President Donald Trump on Thursday announced that his legal team is adding Siena polling to his refiled defamation lawsuit against the New York Times. Newsweek reached out to the New York Times and Siena Research for comment by email on Thursday afternoon.
Why it Matters
Trump sued the Times for $15 billion in September 2025, but U.S. District Judge Steven Merrday dismissed the lawsuit, accusing Trump's legal team of filling the complaint against the news outlet with "tedious and burdensome" language that had no bearing on the legal case.
As such, Trump filed an amended complaint, which the Times maintains is a meritless intimidation attempt to silence the outlet, saying that the president's complaint attempts to "stifle independent reporting" and "generate P.R. attention."
What To Know
In a message posted on Truth Social on Thursday, Trump wrote: "The Times Siena Poll, which is always tremendously negative to me, especially just before the Election of 2024, where I won in a Landslide, will be added to my lawsuit against The Failing New York Times."
