The real measure of these companies is operating cash flow, which is, essentially, profit without having to pay tax.

In 2024, Amazon paid $9 billion in Federal income tax on revenues of $638 billion and operating cash flow of $117 billion. That's an effective tax rate of about 8% versus the 15% on average that middle class Americans pay. In contrast, Amazon employees paid $32 billion in federal taxes and entitlements.
