The first notices are rolling in for Amazon MGM Studios controversial, big-budget First Lady documentary Melania.
Described as an intimate chronicle that offers a rare glimpse into the life of Melania Trump, exploring her role as First Lady and her relationship with the President, the film marks the comeback of filmmaker Brett Ratner, who has been a pariah in Hollywood following multiple accusations of sexual harassment, which he has denied.
Critics, who werent invited to preview screenings or the premiere that took place Thursday in Washington, D.C., are now catching up with the movie and its as bad as many predicted.
The Daily Beast panned the film: The truth is, my soul left my body during the very first seconds of the film, when a drone shot over the ocean makes its way over the Mar-a-Lago grounds to Melanias feet in heels, walking to her car as The Rolling Stones Gimme Shelter plays. But my soul didnt just escape and flee, which it would have been in its every right to do. No, it lingered, glaring at me the entire Melania running time with a mixture of disappointment and anger, like an owner would at their dog after it ate the garbage.
