In reply to the discussion: Report: Lautenberg Aide Slams Booker For Being ‘Self-Absorbed And Disrespectful’ [View all]Blasphemer
(3,641 posts)27. I understand respecting those who came before you but...
Cory Booker, and any one, else can choose to run whether or not Lautenberg wants to retire. It's a democracy and I am so tired of how Senate seats in particular are treated as some sort of noble right. It's not the House of Lords. No one needs permission. You can call me ageist if you'd like but I believe term limits need to be imposed because the ages at which these politicians cling to their positions of power are ridiculous. Is it any wonder that things such as changing procedural rules never happen? The Senate needs a regular infusion of fresh blood, fresh ideas and approaches that defy the status quo. We can't get that with same people hanging around for decades.

This is from an aide who will lose his job, greedy aide at that. This is NOT from Lautenberg himself

But they should not speak for the Senator. I don't think he would have run again anyhow.

I have really mixed feelings on this one. Lautenberg is SOLID but he'll be 88 in 2014...

I'm starting to see this about Cory Booker, too. First, his defense of Bain Capital really irked me.
