Thanks to Donald, Iran has taken an unproven threat and made closing the strait a reality. The world economy is threatened by the closure. Iran can choose who pays a toll and who does not. Iran can simply say, "invade us, nuke us, or pound sand." Iran can ask for and get aid from Russia and China. The US has isolated itself from the non-Middle East world. Now, the gulf states are realizing that they picked the wrong side.

Building a canal around the strait would take a decade, enormous resources, and international cooperation. Iran could still attack any site in the region, including the canal construction. The world economy will not wait that long. Donald will have to chicken out, yet again. The deal he gets will be worse (maybe much worse) than what Obama and the world had before Donald tore it up at the beginning of his first term.
