He was the ER doctor on-call most days. He made many 'covert' trips to the ER to D & C botched abortions and miscarriages. We kids heard he and our mother talking about these things. He never ratted out the abortions, they were a crime, all were classed 'miscarriage'. Our town was small, but I recall many such incidents. Extrapolating to the larger population it must have been an enormous number nationwide. This was back when 'marital rape' wasn't a crime. Birth control was illegal, or unobtainable without a husband's consent. Sex Ed was folk lore and misinformation passed around among teens. We had made so much progress until Trump unleashed the MAGA sickness. Women and girls are at risk again. Medical providers are caught in a moral and ethical dilemma. I see no easy way to recover what we've lost. Evil is loose in this nation.
