Unfortunately, the Obama Administration inherited two unnecessary (one, at least, also illegal) wars in addition to the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s. It is still too heavy-handed in using military options/solutions, IMO. While I have not always been happy with the pace of withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan, at least it is happening. What is sad is to see the devastation and instability that have been left behind after throwing trillions of $$$ badly needed in the US into the money pits, basically increasing the gap between wealthy and poor in those societies as well as our own and exacerbating their religious and ethnic differences, not to mention opening up more opium traffic from Afghanistan to the West. Those adverse consequences don't even include the hundreds of thousands of lives lost on all sides, as well as the millions whose lives have been adversely affected both here and abroad.
What continues to taint US foreign policy throughout much of the world, however, is the consistently festering - and, at times, explosive - I-P situation. So long as it exists as it does, there will never be stability anywhere in the ME, let alone peace. Frankly, so long as the USG continues to heed the most radically RW voices (both Jewish & Christian) in this matter, no fair resolution - or sadly even rational discussion of how best to proceed - will be allowed here.
