(14,779 posts)The problem was all of them hired NOT documented and illegal immigrants to be their children nanny. It was their choice to save some money when they were young and just out of law school, but as Patricia Schroeder said at the time, if you plan to go into politics, including working to be appointed to a Cabinet position, you have to spend the money to be above reproach, i.e. Patricia Schroeder admitted she had the same temptation to hire an illegal immigrant as a nanny, for she would have saved a lot of money, but she had political ambitions and that mean she had to keep herself lilly white.
The problem with Clinton's first choices for Attorney General is both of them had hired illegal aliens as nannys, and such nominees must be as clean as possible and due to who they hired AND how those nannies where paid (And that both nominees had substantial income so such payment was NOT a severe hardship) was the problem. If you go into politics, pay what is needed to stay as clean as possible.
