Getting followers to hold conflicting beliefs isn't a bug for cults. It is a feature. For example, dear leader is both completely infallible and the victim of constant persecution.

When you're followers buy whatever you say, however much the things contradict each other, you know you've got them. They have stopped thinking and just follow.
