The point is someone standing up when sitting it out is personally intolerable.

When I was still serving, I was carefully apolitical in public. Even when I was in the reserves, I wouldn't put a political sign in my yard or a bumper sticker on my vehicle because people in my small town knew I was in the reserves. I scrupulously protected my apolitical appearance. However, the times were different. I often disagreed with the actions of a succession of GOP administrations but it was not impossible for me to remain publicly apolitical.

I am fortunate that I am not currently serving and do not have to question how much is too much. I am not confident that I would have the courage shown by the Air Force major. I am not sure that he made the right decision but I do admire his courage.
