21. Not what the agreement between Carroll and Trump provides

Under the terms of the 2023 agreement between Trump and Carroll providing for the deposit of $5+ million to a "registry" controlled by the court, release of the funds to Carroll requires either a motion to the court or a stipulation of the parties. Trump, obviously, is not stipulating to the release of the funds, so Carroll has filed a motion. And under the rules of the court, Trump is entitled to file a response to that motion. Ordinarily, that response would be due in 14 days, but Carroll sought, and over Trump's objection, obtained an order reducing the time for Trump to respond from 14 days to 7 days. So Trump has to respond by July 7 and at that point, the judge can decide whether or not the funds should be released to Carroll or whether there is any reason not to do so at this time.

It is not a bond. The money is held by the Court in a "registry" and is the property of the Court. onenote 9 hrs ago #16

Thanks for the lengthy and convoluted explanation of the situation. Hugin 9 hrs ago #22
No one forced Carroll to agree to it. But if she hadn't she risked having a court stay the reward. onenote 8 hrs ago #23
