Qaddafi had to contend with NATO air and sea forces (and probably some land-based operators) who maintained a no-fly, no-tank, no-artillery, no-troop, no-supply zone. Libyan rebel forces walked behind a steel curtain of support to defeat Qaddafi.

Syrian rebels have some minor help with weapon supply, and some questionable help from outside fighters. Nobody is sure of the allegiences of the outside groups, or what they will do if Assad is defeated. Maybe leave. Maybe not.

Assad, so far, has been dealt the better hand.
