In reply to the discussion: Scott Brown is not running for Senate [View all]JaneQPublic
(7,117 posts)Nowhere in this article does it confirm that Kerry had McCain on his short list for VP or -- more importantly -- that McCain would do it. (Even Biden says McCain wouldn't.)
Besides, the question isn't whether John Kerry likes John McCain; it's what's going on in McCain's head, since he's the one voting to confirm Kerry as SOS, not the other way around.
McCain has already shown he'd sell his soul to the Devil for political advantage... when he embraced GWBush after the 2000 election, when he went from "Maverick" to Teabagger to keep from losing his Senate seat in a tough primary. It would be no stretch for McCain to push Kerry for a cabinet job to open up a Senate seat.
No doubt McCain has been friends with Kerry in the Senate. McCain was also friends with Hagel in the Senate, but Hagel's confirmation wouldn't open up a Senate seat.
So, despite the fact that Hagel and Kerry hold very similar views on a number of international issues, McCain threw roses to one (Kerry) but lambasted the other (Hagel).
How curious.
