35. Olympic walking came from pedestrianism

In the dawn of time (late 1800s) there really were not modern track and field. All of that came from the revival of the olympics where there were different length foot races. There was however, pedestrianism where there were contests on who could walk the fastest between towns or on a closed track.

The only sports were horse racing, boxing, cock fighting and things like that.
