Barry Bonds seeks to overturn conviction [View all]

Barry Bonds challenged his obstruction-of-justice conviction before a federal appeals court Wednesday and may have found a receptive audience in two judges, who questioned whether the former Giants star had tried to interfere with a grand jury's investigation of drugs in sports.
Jurors convicted baseball's all-time home run leader in 2011 of giving misleading testimony in 2003 to a federal grand jury that was looking into steroid distribution by a Burlingame laboratory and Bonds' trainer, Greg Anderson.
Asked by a prosecutor whether Anderson had ever given him drugs he could inject on his own, Bonds launched into a discussion of their friendship and his own childhood without giving a direct answer - a response that the jury found to be aimed at delaying and impeding the investigation.
At Wednesday's hearing of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, however, Judge Michael Hawkins noted that prosecutors later asked Bonds the same question and he flatly denied, three times, that Anderson had ever given him self-injectable drugs.
