Tack on your online purchases, your Google and Yahoo searches, and your visits to countless websites, and there's even more freely given info from which they can glean a million pieces of your puzzle. Tack on all the posts and touchstones of your extended social network, their purchases and searches and little bits of the growing puzzle, and a picture begins to develop. One in which you-- and all the others whom you contact -- contribute to an ever growing knowledge base.

Oh, and bots & worms on your computer aren't necessary. Why be Orwellian when the offer of a cookie will get some of what they seek far easier and with little fear of exposure? Don't think Facebook has seized watching you just because you've "left the building."
