FCC Approves Changes to Phone-Subsidy Program [View all]

The Federal Communications Commission approved changes Tuesday to a federal phone subsidy program for low-income Americans to help them afford broadband service.

The FCC unanimously approved changes to the federal Lifeline program, which subsidizes landline and cellphone service for low-income Americans. Under a pilot program, Lifeline will be expanded to help cover the costs of Internet service.
