1. "Counterfit" parts have been around for decades

And some offshore producers have not a qualm about reproducing OEM or name brand packaging, or making the parts themselves out of gumwrappers, beer cans, and old shoes.
Many of these are sold as "will fit", "white box" or "universal" parts, to low end repair shops and shady parts stores. Sometimes they work OK, kinda.. but if you haul big loads, or drive in crazy traffic, they may fail at the worst time - or last 6 weeks.
