It really doesn't matter in the long scheme of things

Much like the NRA is dead, but it will take a few cycles to happen

It's a shame people get hurt, but its like a cure for a major disease.
There comes a cure, and everyone from that point forward is in no danger of dying.
YES of course it is very sad for those who are hurt prior, but long term, 99% end up saved.

(and who is to say, had the Peanuts crew grown up, that Charlie Brown would not have married Lucy, but by then, she would not be able to bully him around, and their marriage would be one of love and equalness.
So in effect, long term, Charlie Brown pulled the football from Lucy.
She just doesn't know it yet.)
