In reply to the discussion: Obama Tells Democrats They Must Be Open to Entitlement Changes [View all]Swede Atlanta
(3,596 posts)When the fat cats continue to get richer, the corporations continue to hide their money offshore and the stock market soars to new highs, NO changes to "non-entitlement" programs such as Medicare and Social Security are acceptable.
These are not "entitlements" like they are a give-away from the haves to the have-nots. These are benefits that the American people have worked their entire lives supporting. Now is their time to enjoy the security of these programs.
I'm not for soaking the rich but minor adjustments to the tax code could do lots such as eliminating the cap on the SS tax or at least increasing it. How about eliminating the corporate welfare to the oil and gas companies? How about penalizing companies that hide their profits overseas but give them incentives to bring that money home and invest in American jobs?
We cannot let Obama who, despite his wonderful qualities, is, in my opinion, in his heart another corporatist, destroy the social safety net. He will have his millions and his cushy government retirement and health care. What about the rest of us?
No, No and Hell No!!!!!
