(1,734 posts)Republicans have put forth nothing new and the President is again offering up things to give away. For what? He'll get nothing in return. Stop corporate welfare first. How about bringing back negotiating prices of medicine rather than following the ridiculous rule that government cannot negotiate drug prices for Medicare. Negotiating drug prices would save billions.
Perhaps the fiscal emergency the Republicans believes exists is grounds for ignoring the rule the Republicans put in effect that there could be no negotiating of drug prices for Medicare. The VA negotiates for lower prices as do all the other countries in the world. The U.S. is stuck paying the bill for everyone. This rule must change first and then let's see how much the deficit goes down. Add in getting the military out of Afghanistan and other countries where we are no longer needed for additional savings. Add in the tax loopholes for corporations and the rich who offshore their profits and leave their debts for others including U.S. taxpayers and you get the idea. Do not touch Social Security or Medicare.
