In reply to the discussion: Obama Tells Democrats They Must Be Open to Entitlement Changes [View all]dreamnightwind
(4,775 posts)OK... So all of those cabinet appointments were forced upon him? It is not BS hyperbole at all. Surprised to even get an argument on this.
We can (and do, no doubt) differ on the best strategies for moving forward, but at this point it's hard for me to see anyone disagreeing that he is a conservative Democrat.
I don't see an easy way forward on these issues. My preference would be for him to champion the budget proposal of the Progressive Caucus. Will it pass the GOP-led House and the GOP-blocked Senate? Obviously not. However, getting behind those ideas would validate them, it would give us something to build on. And you'd be surprised how much the political ball can move when the interests of the people are given voice. It would NOT help the GOP win back power, quite the opposite, it would be much more obvious who is on the side of the people and who is on the side of the 1%. Right now it's not so obvious.
And I realize it isn't just Obama, it's the congressional Dems, too, that need to get behind the interests of the 99%.
