Odawa Indian tribe hosts Michigan's first legal same-sex marriage

... as Michigan's Constitution bans same-sex marriage and/or civil unions. Voters in 2004 passed an amendment to that affect with a 58.6% approval. Michigan also prohibits adoption by same sex couples and does not have any 'hate crime' laws based on sexual orientation. As a citizen of the state I know well the political dichotomy here. Seemingly a 'Blue' state on the federal level, with two Democrat Senators and having voted for a Democrat president since '92, state-wide many areas are very 'Red' with a Republican governor and legislature currently in control. Surprisingly, or maybe not, many blue-collar people (including union members) here are very socially conservative. I cannot explain why that is.
