In reply to the discussion: Venezuela's Maduro urges Obama to halt "plot" against rival [View all]Justina For Justice
(94 posts)As a retired American lawyer I lived and taught in Venezuela for the last six years. If Madura says that the Noriega and Reich are plotting to kill Capriles, believe him. pThe U.S. State Department has consistently demonized President Chavez because he told the truth to the people about the actions of the U.S. government and its capitalist owners, the big corporations. Years ago they wanted to control the countries of Latin America to protect their huge fruit farms, now they are doing the same in order to control their oil. Chavez and his socialist government represent a serious threat to corporate profits, thus the U.S. had to try to portray Chavez (and now Maduro) into a buffoon or a dictator sy o the American people would not see that their brand of socialism really improves the lives of the majority of the people.
Both Noriega and Reich who Maduro accuses of plotting to kill the opposition presidential candidate, Henrique Capriles, have supported the very worst atrocities committed by the U.S. in Latin America. They repeatedly supported terrorists, such as those who bombed the Cuban air plane line which killed everyone on board, including many young athletes. The U.S. Congress's Church Committee documented that our CIA made more than 100 attempts to kill Cuba's Fidel Castro, even using some absolutely absurd methods to do so, including poisoned cigars and poisoned wet suits. Castro is still alive, no thanks to the terrorists that Noriega and Reich coordinated with. Along with the U.S. ambassador to Honduras, John Negroponte, both were instrumental in creating the Contra forces in order to take down the democratically elected Sandinista government in Nicaragua in the 1980's. They would stop at nothing to protect their profitable economic interests, including murder. By killing Capriles, they hope to provoke a crisis and provide an excuse for the U.S. to invade Venezuela.

The majority of countries in Latin America and the majority of their people have applauded and respected Chavez and Maduro for their efforts to improve the economic and political reality in Latin America. That is why at least 33 latin America countries have joined with Chavez and Maduro to form the CELAC organization, modeled on the European Union, which provides funds to developing countries without the harsh austerity measures demanded by the U.S. controlled International Monetary Fund. They seek real independence and autonomy, not their old puppet relations with the U.S. Neither the U.S. or Canada was invited to join CELAC. See my post today:
