I grew up on and off in South America and in Central America attending primary and secondary schools there. My family is half anglo half latino and I am fluent in Spanish.
Venezuela will work this out on their own. They certainly can't elect worse leaders than we have: just look at 2000-2008.
My extensive library is nearly one full wall of Latin American history with over 50 books on Che, one of my all time heroes.
I was of a handful here at the DU to oppose the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, never mind the invasion of Iraq.
From my earliest posts here, I made it clear all those years ago and since I am a socialist.
What I don't want, and I hope you don't want, is civil war in Venezuela. I have faith in the people there. They can sort this out on their own. Just because Hugo pretty much handpicked his successor, doesn't mean that's some sort of anointment. Even the cardinals in the Vatican had a more democratic choosing than this.
The people of Venezuela, along with those in most Latin American countries are not bedazzled by the U.S. anymore. They have grown up democracies and most all are left to leaning left.
And the Baba thing is disturbing. You wrote "if it's true", but it is true. Ponder that.
