In reply to the discussion: Howard Dean Launches Campaign To Flip State Legislatures [View all]KoKo
(84,711 posts)"a thorn in the side" is often a good thing as a reminder.
I think the Party has some serious trouble ahead if it doesn't recognize some of the issues that have become important since 2008 with the path it's chosen. Odds are statistically that we won't have another Dem President in 2016 so the most important thing we can do is concentrate on taking control of our State Governments and trying to push back the ALEC legislation that has been pushed through in so many states that were formerly Democrat or Democratically leaning. I'm in NC and what is going on is horrendous. Between gerrymandering and Dem Party scandals we lost control of both State Houses and Repugs are ramming through what would have been unthinkable legislation just a few years ago.. The Obama team did nothing to help us with gerrymandering (NAACP and others tried to get Holder to do something...but went nowhere) and the "troops on the ground" from OFA were not in the tradition of Dean/Kucinich activists in 2004. Their agenda was not inclusive is the complaint from former activists who felt shut out.
So...it's important that grassroots work begin again. Otherwise some of us will be working third party. Lots of unhappy progressives here and across the country, plus "out of wars & occupation" folks are very angry.
Glad you are doing well and that you and wife had some time to enjoy the work situation.
