In reply to the discussion: Robertson: God gives less miracles to ‘too-educated Americans’ who learn science [View all]Swede Atlanta
(3,596 posts)I am a Christian and, at least in my faith tradition, we encourage education and self-development.
We believe that while there may be some things that evade human development and understanding, e.g. "why does the universe exist" even if we eventually solve the "what got the big bang going in the first place", man is an intelligent being.
We have no problem reconciling the theory of evolution with the concept of creation. We recognize that it would be a truly dull and uninspiring universe if living creatures did not evolve over time, constantly improving and adapting.
That is not at odds with our belief that life after this one is not earned but rather a gift received as a result of faith and acceptance. We also believe that God has and does perform miracles.
But we also believe that some of those miracles are accomplished through the science and learning of man as man has strived to learn and understand and solve problems.
So Robertson's "blind faith" while attacking educated persons who strive to learn and understand the world around them is not familiar to me. But it is certainly an approach to Christianity (and certainly Islam) that is pushed by many Christian so-called leaders and followed by millions of individuals.
