(12,194 posts)Once again, the point was that as usual, the comparison is made between usage in public, versus simple ownership.
And what about after your kids are grown and moved out, like mine are? Should someone with a child who is grown up and moved out be subject to a lifelong prohibition of firearm possession due to a condition they themselves don't even have?
I don't agree that Adam lanzas mother should have never been able to own a firearm. I do think that adam himself should never have had access to them, however.
As far as cars go...since 1969 all gm vehicles and most others, have had a column lock, which keeps automatic transmission equipped cars in park. They generally don't "slip into gear". Manual transmission vehicles, on the other hand, could slip out of gear...but then...if you're deliberately parking an unused vehicle in an unsecure location on a hill or grade, and allowing kids to play in on or around it...maybe you do need insurance.
