In reply to the discussion: Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer Signs Bill Banning Destruction Of Guns Surrendered At Buyback Events [View all]rwsanders
(3,201 posts)84. I'm not sure buy backs were a good idea to begin with...
I'll never forget a front page article of the St. Louis Post Dispatch probably around 91 or 92 announcing that $10,000 had been used to buy back about 1200 weapons of various sorts.
Then on page 11 where the National and International news started... there was an article announcing that the U.S. Department of Commerce had just approved the import of 100,000 hand guns from China.
The whole thing is an insane mess. China is also our 6th biggest customer for military weapons (what type I don't know) while we publically criticize their human rights record.

OP
What of the scam perpetrated on the owners who turned them in? They didn't expect this.

What a Pro-Life concept. I wonder if they'll extend their beliefs to bullets and bombs next.

Shouldn't their philosophy be, if I pay for the Gun I now own it so I can do anything I want with it

Shouldn't it be up to the people turning in their guns to decide what they want done with the guns?
